How to Make Hummingbird Nectar?
- Skip the honey! Hummingbird food is best made with just sugar and water. Honey can encourage bacteria growth.
- Use a simple ratio of ¼ cup sugar to 1 cup water for normal weather. In cold or rainy weather, you can increase the sugar to ⅓ cup for extra energy.
- Boiling isn't necessary for small batches used daily. For larger batches stored in the fridge, use boiling water to prevent bacteria.
How to Fill the Nectar?
According to the Soliom website, you should fill the nectar by following these three steps:
- Rotate the base of the feeder open.
- Fill the feeder body.
- Reattach the base.
Important Tip: When refilling the feeder, be sure to turn it upside down!
